The Fraud: One Year On - A Bristol Counterfire Meeting
Wednesday 8th July
18:30 - 20:30Join Bristol Counterfire and author Paul Holden to discuss The Fraud: One Year On.
‘The Fraud’, written by Paul and published in 2025, used Labour Party files, including some never seen before, to expose the corrupt heart of the Labour Party under the leadership of Keir Starmer and the malign influences of Labour Together and Morgan McSweeney. The clique that they led, stole power from left wing former leader Jeremy Corbyn and his supporters in the party, powered by deception, and funded by donations that were unlawfully undisclosed.
Since publication, McSweeney has been cast from his advisory role to the PM after being caught hiring private security firms to spy on Paul and journalists who were asking the uncomfortable questions around the Labour Together project.
Paul will join us to discuss the book and these further developments, as Keir Starmer's Labour Party crumbles under the weight of consecutive scandal.

Support/Structure Exhibition Preview
Thursday 16th July
18:00 - 20:30An exhibition by Vera Boele-Keimer and Mary Flower.
Exhibition runs: 17th, 18th, 19th July
12:00 - 18:00This two-person exhibition develops a dialogue between the work of Bristol-based artists Mary Flower and Vera Boele-Keimer.
Both share a fascination with the “vital materiality” of grids which they use as metaphorical and physical support structure in their works.
Whilst Vera’s work focuses on the grid as a methodical principle of woven fabric, Mary pushes the implied stability of grids to breaking point in her sculptural practice.
The resulting exhibition combines ceramics, moving image with works on paper and painting, interrogating the grid’s capacity to move, become undone and hold together.

Lessons From A Revolution - The Spanish Civil War, 90 Years On
Wednesday 22nd July
18:30 - 20:3090 years after the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War, it remains one of the most important and debated experiences, in history, of the socialist movement.
Join Chris Nineham as we discuss that the war was not simply a contest between democracy and fascism. It was also a struggle over whether working people could take control of society and build a new social order while resisting the forces of reaction.
For socialists today, Spain continues to raise a vital question: how can we build the broadest resistance to the far right while maintaining an independent political programme rooted in democracy, equality and working-class power? The sacrifices of those who fought in Spain ensure that this question remains as relevant now as it was in 1936.
